Essentials For Every Field Day ( Momimhar posted on May 26th, 2018 )

Students had fun at the Field Day games

Water slide was K’s favorite at the Field Day.

The classic game of Tug-O-War. Field Day 2018.

Yesterday, Friday, was Field Day at K’s school. Everyone was very busy preparing the outdoor games, obstacle courses, bounce house, and water slide.  The children were very excited and couldn’t wait for the special day to come.

The night before, I prepared the important things K may need according to the school’s notice-sunscreen, towel, bottled water, change clothes, and snack/sack lunch.

Sunscreen

Because all the activities are outdoors and late Spring in Texas start to get really hot, it is very necessary to put on sunscreen. Even if it is a cloudy weather, putting on sunscreen is highly recommended to prevent getting sunburns especially on young children’s skin.  We’ve been using Banana Boat Sun Comfort Sunscreen Spray.  It has been our trusted protection against harmful UV rays for years whenever we go outdoors or to the beach.  It’s non-sticky feel after spraying gives it the advantage.

Towel and Change Clothes

Usually field day activities include water games.  Darling daughter said the water slide was her favorite among all the fun games yesterday. So she brought a towel and change clothes because, boy, the students were soaking wet yesterday from the water slide and sponge battle. They had a lot of fun.

Bottled Water

Of course, with constant movement in the heat, the kids needed hydration. And the most convenient item to bring was bottled water.  The only thing was, there’s no place to put those drinks in.  The crate was full of towels. So I had to look for a big plastic bag to put all those drinks in so I can carry them around.  Gladly one of the staff at the sign in area under the shade of the trees had an extra big plastic bag.

Sack Lunch and Snack

I don’t remember if I ordered a sack lunch for K from the cafeteria weeks before the field day. So I packed her lunch anyway just in case I didn’t.  After the students’ completed all the outdoor activities, they went back to the classrooms and changed.  Then they proceed to the cafeteria for the dance party and yearbook signing. The students ate lunch in their respective classrooms after.

It was an awesome fun day. Good thing the First Graders were the first ones in the schedule to go outdoors before it got too hot at mid day. To end the day, they had Kona Ice to cool them off.  What a great day!

Summer Vacation Corpus Christi Texas ( Momimhar posted on August 6th, 2017 )

It was a very pleasant day driving today.  We are here on Padre Island in Corpus Christi, TX.  It is our small family’s summer vacation this year.  Darling daughter is very happy because she’s been wanting to go to Schlitterbahn Waterparks and Resorts. So we had to try going to the one here in Corpus Christi.  If I was not mistaken, were were in two Schlitterbahn Waterparks four years ago.  We went to one in Galveston Island and the other one in New Braunfels.  We all liked the two locations.  Schlitterbhan in Galveston Island was  indoors. Though the Schlitterbahn New Braunfels wasn’t, there were lots of shady areas because of big trees within the resort.  We’ll see if this one in Corpus Christi is nice.

The targeted time to leave the house didn’t go through.  We were supposed to be on the road at 9:00 A.M. today, but we had to leave around 11:00 A.M. instead.  It was an 8-hour drive overall from Lavon (TX).  We arrived at our destination around 7:00 P.M. and headed towards the front desk to check in and everything. After that, we drove to the beach and relaxed a bit.  Then we ate dinner at La Palma Mexican Restaurant off S. Padre Island Drive and Whitecap Boulevard.

Swimming Lessons Level 2: Water Movement ( Momimhar posted on July 20th, 2017 )

Swimming lessons at YMCA.

This week is my darling daughter’s second level of swimming lessons.  The class is introduced to water movements.  The first level swimming class was about water acclimation where the students were taught to feel confident in the water so they won’t be scared whatsoever. Level 2 is about water movement.  Students are taught about recommended and proper water movement in swimming. Also, breathing techniques are introduced as well as proper floating and to get off the water by themselves.

K was joined with my friend’s daughter Ari because my cousins’ are on vacation.  The instructor teaches the students in the 5-feet deep water then takes them to the 8-feet deep water for the jumps.
