National Night Out Promotes Year-Round Community Safety Awareness ( Momimhar posted on October 7th, 2015 )

“I had so much fun!” K told me when we were in the car pulling out of the Baptist Church parking lot last night.  We went to town for the 2015 National Night Out celebration.  National Night Out is an annual event uniquely designed to promote year-round crime prevention, strengthen the police-community cooperation against crime, and build strong community safety awareness.  Sponsors gave reading materials for everyone to read and small favors for everybody, too.

As soon as we got there at the Olde City Park in Downtown Wylie, where the event was holding, I let K try riding on the pony. I saw it has a long line so we started there because they might load the ponies back to their trailers when it gets dark.  K enjoyed the ride.  She said it was her favorite part in the event.  Next she got to pet the goats and the sheep.  She liked that so much that she went there and fed them after a while again.  K was happy to know that there was a mini-petting zoo because she enjoyed petting the goats last year.

I enjoy these kinds of community events.  There is people interaction and learning.  There are fun activities for kids and adults include:

  • bounce house
  • games in every booth
  • face painting
  • petting zoo
  • fire trucks
  • K9 Demo
  • SWAT Team
  • free food
  • music
  • pony rides
  • fireworks
