Your home may seem safe to you, but it is likely a dangerous place for babies. That is why baby proofing is an important step that parents of all experience should take. Unfortunately, some people don’t get their home ready for a baby because they think it takes too much time and money. This just simply isn’t true. In fact, below are a few simple tricks that you can do today to baby proof your home.

Invest in Finger Shields

Finger shield safety products are these nifty little devices that help prevent a child from getting their fingers pinched or shut in the door. They are relatively inexpensive and easy to install, which means there is really no reason not to have them on all doors in your home.

Use Wash Cloths

That’s right, I said wash cloths. These versatile pieces of fabric are not only for keeping clean, they can help keep doors closed while still allowing babies to turn the door knob. All you have to do is, while closing the door, position a wash cloth between the door frame and the door. Make sure it is on the same side that the door handle is on. You should be able to fully close the door while the wash cloth stays in position. You should test the door a few times by turning the handle and trying to open the door. When you want to open the door, simply pinch the wash cloth tight while you open the door.

Prevent Doors from Slamming Shut

You can easily and quickly use a bit of masking tape and an old towel to keep doors from slamming shut. While this method may not be the most eye pleasing, it is a great alternative for parents on a budget. To start, you will need to position a towel at the top of the door. The towel should be closer to the side with the hinges. You want the door to close most of the way while still staying ajar enough so that fingers cannot be squashed. If you notice that the door is staying open too wide, simply move the towel located at the top of the door further along. You can also cut the towel as needed if it hangs down too low.  Secure the towels corner to the door by adding a bit of masking tape.

Sounds very clever, isn’t it? Baby-proofing made easy and worry-free, yes?
