Winter season is not that much fun for us especially for my toddler because we cannot go outside to play. We cannot play at the playground either because of the very cold weather. I only take her to the play area in the mall once a week to have some play time and social interaction with other kids. But if the day is clear and sunny, boy we surely have lots of fun.
When the weather gets pleasant and the temperature a little warm for us to go outside the house, we play outdoors as much as we can. My little girl enjoys it very much. Some of the games and activities we play outdoors are:
- Tag –Â This is her favorite game because she can run and run.
- Hide and Seek – After playing tag, she wanted to play hide and seek. She giggles so much when I find her.
- Chalk Drawing (on the driveway) – I bought a box of chalk with different colors and my daughter likes drawing on the driveway.
- Driveway Hopscotch – After chalk drawing we play driveway hopscotch. But my darling daughter will scribble and draw inside the hopscotch after a while.
- Jumping in puddles – We only do this outside on the driveway when the weather is really nice and warm.
- Treasure Hunt (in the front yard) – My little girl and I just look for some things like leaves, nice stones, dandelions, etc. as we were hunting for treasures. She really enjoys that.
- Strolling (around the neighborhood) – DD loves riding her little tricycle. And we go for a stroll around the neighborhood. The only issue is that, I have to carry the tricycle halfway because she doesn’t want to ride anymore.

With these outdoor activities, my toddler learns how the things around her works. She can decide and plan on what’s next. Of course, I am always in supervision. And safety when we are outdoors is my priority.

like you i’m also not an outdoor person when it comes winter just way too cold for me to play outside even sledding, however since spring is right in the corner surely my son and i would be enjoying the outdoor activity.

These are some fun games that even mom and dad can join in. I am different mommy though because even if it is cold outside as long as they are dressed up properly, I am taking the outside. I can’t stand having them inside cooped up and getting all silly and wild. LOL! But sometimes we don’t feel like going outside in the cold either so we stay home bake, workout, make forts, and what not. 🙂

These are some great ideas! My grandsons love to climb trees, and they all love to chalk on the driveway and sidewalk. We try to go to the park pretty often, and to the zoo occasionally too.

I’m thrilled that the snow is starting to melt away! My kids have actually been able to play outside a couple of times in the last week.

My favorite is drawing in the driveway with chalk. My nephew and I like creating a zoo full of animals on the ground. We also like tossing the football back and forth.

It is the opposite where we live. Winter for us is the time to be out and enjoy the cool weather. Once the hot summer begins it means staying inside to hide from the heat until after sundown. I love the ideas you have mentioned here. We have done some of these and the ones we have not we will give them a try.

My kids enjoy playing outside and we are excited to go back to our other house in Kansas for the summer. There they can do a lot of things in the yard, bet it climbing trees, ride their trikes and bikes, playing in the mud, playing in the garden, etc. Kids are kids and they need to fun playtime exploring and learning about their world as they are growing. 🙂
My daughters love making mud pies and jumping in the rain, to picking flowers and walking!
