Requesting Kids’ Meal On Board Is A Nice Thing To Do ( Momimhar posted on December 15th, 2012 )

We were at the DFW airport Sunday morning, boarded the Korean Air flight bound to Manila, Philippines.  My darling daughter was very curious with what’s around her.  She was asking a lot of questions the night of December 8 when we were heading to my brother-in-law’s house to have him take us to the hotel nearby the airport.

We brought lots of snacks for her to nibble – Cheerios, crackers, and dried fruits.  I also put a sippy cup with water in my handbag just in case she wanted something to drink.  She did good waking up very early the morning we’re heading to the airport.  Though she did not eat breakfast, I gave her a chocolate milk drink.

After checking in our baggage at the Korean Air counter in Terminal D, we went ahead to the security check and entered the passenger lounge at Gate 18.  We bought a cheap stroller so Kaye can sit and relax while we’re strolling around waiting for boarding.  In a stroller, she’s safe in the airport.

When my husband booked for tickets, he requested special kid’s meal for our daughter.  He picked spaghetti, pizza, and omelet.  Same meals requested for the flight back to Texas.  Our departure was at eleven o’clock in the morning Sunday, lunch was served on the plane and our little girl was given a spaghetti meal.

I think requesting a  special kids’ meal is a nice thing to do when traveling with a child.  But don’t forget to ask the airline what meals are available.

Baby’s Upcoming Adventure ( Momimhar posted on December 15th, 2012 )

We applied for baby’s passport in April 2012.  It arrived three weeks after the application.  We were very happy for our baby girl because she has her own passport.  Now she can travel international.

And the big travel adventure for our little princess has begun.  She is now a traveler with us to the Philippines for a month-long vacation.  We will be celebrating the Holidays with my side of the family.  First time in four years living in the US, I am gonna be home for Christmas.   And we are traveling with a toddler.

I read an article about recommendations on what to bring when traveling with a toddler to keep him or her entertained on the plane or anywhere else.

  • Take along the favorite lovey (my darling daughter has a bunny.)
  • Take a couple of the favorite story books.
  • Take some crayons and a coloring book.
  • Get some stickers.

My husband bought a book of stickers for $4 from a book store.  It has 700 stickers.  Cool!  Our daughter had a good time playing with the stickers.  We just had to watch her not to stick them on chairs, floors, or walls.

It was a very hectic travel preparation because there were two important occasions before the departure.  We had to run through all the checklists.  And before sealing the big boxes for homecoming gifts, I double checked them over again for additional items to squeeze in.  Ah…vacation.

Child Proof Perfect ( Momimhar posted on December 15th, 2012 )

If you have kids then you know that it is important to child-proof your home. Furniture is often overlooked, but it shouldn’t be because kids have been severely injured by furniture. There are ways to reduce the risk as much as possible so that you and your kids can have fun without the risk of injury.

Keeping Things in Their Place

A table leg leveler is one of the easiest ways to do this. If a table is wobbling back and forth this could lead to injury. For example, if you have a wobbly coffee table and your small child climbs onto it, when it wobbles he or she could lose his or her balance and fall off. Since kids like to climb and no one has eyes in the back of their heads, it is important to make sure that all tables are strong and steady just in case the kids ends up climbing onto it.

Drawer Locks

Dressers are heavy items and when you have a drawer open, they can become even heavier. Say you left the top drawer open, well your child can pull on this and pull the entire dresser onto him or her. This could be a very dangerous accident. One way to help prevent this is to put locks on the drawers. If the drawers cannot be opened, then the child will not be able to hang on them and risk pulling the entire piece of furniture onto him or herself.

Keep Cords Out of Sight

Kids are curious and will do so many things to try and figure out this world. Cords can be easily pulled and whatever it is attached to can come crashing down. For example, if your computer monitor cord is right where your child can grab onto it, he or she may pull the cord and then the monitor may fall onto your child. This could cause serious injury. So, make sure that all cords are placed in a way that a child is not able to get to them and start tugging. Clustering cords with plastic pull ties and then securing them under a desk or to a wall is a quick and easy way to keep your child safe.
