Are you one of the people who get prescription medicines in a community pharmacy like Walgreens? I am. And it is very convenient for me to get my medicines at Walgreens because it is closer to my house. I pay cheaper prescription medicines for generic name brands. In fact, I began to have my prescription meds filled when I was pregnant a year ago. And because I had a complication due to pregnancy, I had to maintain a medication.
Some say, that because Walgreens is no longer a part of Express Scripts pharmacy provider network, the customers will be forced to find another pharmacy where they have in-network benefits. Who does not want to retain their benefits? No one. But in this situation, there is a possible solution.
Express Script is one of the biggest pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) in the United States. They are responsible processing and paying prescription drug claims. Because Walgreens is not in Express Script’s network anymore, the pharmacy patients whose certain prescription insurance plans managed by Express Script will have to go to look for new pharmacists which will cost them more time and hassle. And maybe a higher rate in prescription medicines.
Walgreens is working on a possible solution to this Walgreens and Express Script. They are offering as special discount on annual membership for Walgreens Prescription Savings Club. For $10 a year, a family membership covers everyone in your immediate family, including a spouse, dependents 22 and younger and pets. Individuals may join for $5. Other benefits include:
- Savings on more than 8,000 brand-name and all generic medications
- Discounts on flu shots, pet prescriptions, nebulizers and diabetic supplies
- Bonuses when you purchase Walgreens brand products and photofinishing services
