Guest Reader Today ( Momimhar posted on February 28th, 2017 )

I was a guest reader in K’s class yesterday.

In participation with the Read Across America Campaign week, K’s school PTO asked parents if we’re able to come to the school and read to the students or listen to them read.  I came to her school yesterday and read a book to two First Grader students and to K’s class.

It was a great feeling to be able to share a little time reading to the children and see them interact and share their reactions about the story I read to them.

Learning How To Use Technology At The Library ( Momimhar posted on January 28th, 2017 )

Checking for books.

If I remember it right, this is the second time K and I visited our local library since the school started in August.  We couldn’t attend the Story Time for All Ages on Tuesday evenings because our bedtime is around 7:00 P.M.  and the story time is scheduled at 6:30 P.M.  The story time on Wednesdays and Fridays are for toddlers and are scheduled during school hours. So obviously we’re not able to go as well.

This afternoon we got the chance to go to the library because K wanted to borrow DVDs. We have a collection of kids’ movies on DVDs at home but it gets boring, you know.  She enjoys being at the library.  She reads a few books. Sometimes  I read to her. What fascinated her most was searching for books and DVDs at the computer kiosk.  When K started to try using the computer kiosk, she used a step stool to reach the keyboard.  Now, she doesn’t have to use one anymore.  She can reach the computer keyboard and she’s very happy about that. This way K will know if her favorite books like Pete the Cat and Hippoposites and DVDs like Kubo and My Neighbor Totoro are IN or OUT.  The library is one of the places to take your children for learning and reading.  There are activities and special events for kids’ according to age and interest that local libraries organize all the time.

I need to allot more library time on the weekends.  As for the story time, we will catch up on that in the summer.  We always participate in the Summer Reading Club.

Indoor And Outdoor Activities For Young Children ( Momimhar posted on April 26th, 2013 )

We skipped the Story Time today because I want my little daughter to get a day of rest.  I mean, we didn’t do any traveling today.  It’s windy and chilly outside this morning.  Though we stayed home all day, we did some indoor and outdoor activities.

Play-Doh Time – My darling daughter is already interested in playing with Play-Doh.  She enjoys mashing, rolling, and squeezing the modelling compound.  There are tools included in her Play-Doh kit.  So she can make shapes, mold pattern and objects.  In this activity, she will be able to develop creativity and use her imagination in constructing.

Reading – My daughter loves it when we read storybooks.  She couldn’t get enough of them.  The library is one of her favorite places to hang out.  Well because there is a children’s computer where she can try Dora games.  Also, there’s a play area for infants and toddlers in the kids section in the library.  She enjoyed interacting with other young children there as they play.  When we are at home, we read storybooks and activity books.  She likes look and find, touch and feel, and push-button musical story books.

Baking – Sometimes when the weather is not cooperating and no errands to do, my little princess and I bake cupcakes or a cake.  She likes to help.  She’s my little helper in the kitchen.

Swing is fun!

Swing is fun!

Swing – Whenever we go outdoors, she never fails to ride on her swing.  She has so much fun with it.

Blowing Bubbles – I always have a bubbles available because my little girl sometimes wants to blow bubbles, chase them, and pop them.  Also, it keeps her busy whenever I am doing tasks in the garage or in the garden.

Watering the plants – In the summer or whenever it’s warm, we go outside to water.  She has her own pail and watering can.  She loves playing in the water, too.

Walking – A pleasant day is always an ideal time to go for a walk.  My daughter and I do this in the mornings or late afternoons.  Saying hi to the neighbors we see along the way.  Also, it’s a good exercise at the same time.

So there’s some of our indoor and outdoor activities on ordinary days.  We make it fun as much as we can.  Specially, spending time together and making it enjoyable and learning is the most important.

How about you?

Daddy Went To Story Time With Us ( Momimhar posted on April 23rd, 2013 )

Daddy came with us to the Toddler Story Time at the library Friday morning.  We had a few errands lined up to accomplish that day but I asked him to go with us since we’re all going to town.  And so my husband drove us to the library early because tickets to the Toddler Story Time go out quickly on Fridays.  I though I won’t be able to get three tickets.  But the librarian was very kind.

Because we were 15 minutes early (Story Time starts at 11:30 A.M.), my darling husband went to the bank and gassed up the car.  And he came back just in time for us to get in the room.  He settled himself in the back seats while our little princess and I were sat down on the carpet in the middle of the room.  Kids and parents began participating with the opening song.  The program for Toddler Story Time interests the young children because there’s singing, colors and shapes introduction, puppet show, and dancing.  Also, there’s a puppet show this Friday and I was very glad that my darling husband was able to witness the activities.

My darling husband thought it was a very neat program for young kids.  He said he is very proud of me and baby girl.  She is really interested in reading books and getting social with other kids, too.

Encouraging Your Child Into Good Reading Habits ( Momimhar posted on January 18th, 2013 )

We parents should teach our children good reading habits.  Meaning, we should encourage them to be come a wide reader.  From simple ABCs to textbooks, kids should be taught about the value of reading.

If a child learns how to read in an early age, like preschool age, he/she has the big advantage to learning fast in school.  Comprehension will be easy that will lead to becoming a smart kid.  That is why reading to your children when they are young is highly recommended.  One of the best ways to get your kids interested with books is to take them to the library at least once a week.  This way, they can can explore the library where tons of educational books can be borrowed.  A very good routine has to be followed at home to maintain the interest.

As for me, I learned that babies develop their hearing first in the mother’s womb.  So it’s recommended to read storybooks to the babies whenever moms get the chance.  It is really amazing how they already recognize the mother and the father’s voices.

I started taking my baby girl to the library when she was an infant.  There’s a public library in town where kids’ activity like Toddler Story Time really helps young children interact and get interested in reading books.  My daughter loves going to the Story Time at the library.  She always look forward to Fridays.

I  think that in everything we do, it takes a lot of patience especially when it comes to child’s learning.  And if we do it with love and care, we’ll raise a happy smart child.
