Why Do We Get An Ear Infection? ( Momimhar posted on December 7th, 2016 )

Hi there!  How’s everybody doing?  As for me and my household, we are currently dealing with common cough and colds including an ear infection.  You heard it right.  Ear infection.  My darling daughter and I have it right now.  She will be finishing her medication in two days, and I just started last night.

It was very an unexpected thing.  This is the very first time my daughter had an ear infection since birth.  As far as I can remember, I never had an ear infection in my life.  My ears are prone to clogging though, because my ears produce lots of wax.  And normally, the ear canal cleans itself but there was a time years ago I had a clogged ear that I had to go to the doctor and have it flushed.  Now, I am dealing with this ear infection because my ear was very painful yesterday morning.  On a pain scale of 1 to 10, I could say the pain intensity was 8.  I took two 400 mg Ibuprofen to subside the pain.  When the pain was gone, I went to CVS Minute Clinic to have my ear checked.  Soon as the nurse practitioner cleaned my ears, she said the eardrum in my left ear (where it was hurting) was red.  I told her I woke up in the morning with a painful ear.  She prescribed an antibiotic to be taken within 10 days.  I hope this thing heals fast.

Like I said my daughter and I are having colds right now.  She even had a cough.  She woke up in the middle of her sleep one night crying because she said her ear was hurting so bad.  I was worried and nervous but couldn’t do anything.  I tried to comfort her calmly but it didn’t help.  Then I thought of giving her a pain reliever medicine to help ease the pain so she can go back to sleep.  She didn’t go to school the next day because she had lack of sleep and I took her to the doctor in the afternoon. She had an ear infection.

Aside from taking an antibiotic, K was also doing a breathing treatment using a Nebulizer for five days because she was wheezing. It helped get rid of the coughing.  We are going to see her pediatrician on Monday for a follow up check up.

Why do we get an ear infection?  It is caused by a bacteria or a virus.  When we have a cold, flu, or allergy, our nasal passages, throat, and eustachian tubes (in the ears) get swollen and congested that possibly leads to an ear infection.  It is recommended to see your health provider if you are experiencing ear pains.

Oh how hard it is when you get sick.  Even if only one in your household is sick, it feels like the entire household is not feeling well. I am hoping we all get well very soon because we don’t want this.  We keep eating healthy, drinking lots of water, and sleeping and resting good.  Plus, taking the proper medication to help treat the sickness.

It’s fall season and lots of unexpected health issues are coming in.  We’re catching a cold since the fall started.  Stomach bugs are in the air.  I am very concerned about my daughter’s health all year long especially during the cold weather season.

My darling daughter has been complaining about an upset stomach one day when she got home from school.  I was worried because we were around people few weeks ago partying here and there – Halloween parties and birthdays.  Then there were few friends whose been having cough and colds and stomach bug.  I thought it’s just her complaining about constipation because she, sometimes, get constipated.  I remember my cousin told me that her eldest daughter had a stomach bug, which she was trying to get rid of by giving her daughter some probiotics.  I got a few recommendations about probiotics.  I used to take some before pregnancy.  It’s really a great help improve the digestive health.

Need a New Doctor? Find the Right One for You ( Momimhar posted on May 5th, 2016 )

newborn

Finding a doctor is something that almost everybody dreads. The fact is that there are a million great doctors out there, but finding one just doesn’t seem like a great experience. After all, where do you even start when you’re looking for a doctor to help you take care of your health.

If you’re looking for a specialist, the job of finding the right person can be even more difficult. For example, women trying to find a Cypress gynecologist may feel like they just don’t know where to turn.

Luckily, finding a doctor really isn’t as hard as it seems. Use this guide to help you find the person you need to stay healthy.

Ask Around

Looking for any kind of doctor can be taxing, especially when you’re in a small town and you don’t have thousands of them to call right out of the phone book. That phone book method isn’t always the best anyway though.

Instead of calling random doctors and wasting time on people you don’t really want to work with, ask friends and family if they can recommend somebody to you. It might seem like it’s a bit too personal, but if they love their doctor, they’ll be happy that you’re getting quality medical care like they are.

Of course, the opposite is true as well, and if you ask a friend or family member for a referral, they’ll probably tell you if they don’t like their existing doctor much. That way you can cross that person off your list and go on to somebody who might be a better fit for you.

Talk to Existing Doctors

It might not make sense to ask your dentist about a gynecologist, but the truth is that most doctors know a whole network of others. While they may not know as many people outside of their field, they probably do have a colleague they can recommend to you.

A referral from a medical professional that you trust really can go a long way. Don’t be afraid to ask any doctor that you know for a referral to a specialist or somebody who handles different ailments and issues than they do.

Of course, you might not want to ask your existing general practitioner for a referral to another, but you probably already knew that, right?

Tips On How To Take Care Of Your Eyes And Resolve Vision Problems ( Momimhar posted on December 10th, 2015 )

As a stay-at-home mom blogger, I spend a lot of time on the computer – typing blog post entries, editing pictures, sorting photos for Pinterest Boards, and responding to email messages.  I don’t do these on my cellphone because, you know, cellphones have small screens.  And that means, my eyes get strained sometimes which is giving me headaches once in a while.  I do know that vision problems run in my family.  But I am trying to not take the risk of acquiring them because I don’t want to wear eyeglasses.

But there are some people who have really bad vision.  Some got it when they were born and others acquired vision problems as they get old.  That is why they get prescription eyeglasses to help them see things perfectly.  My husband has an eye problem since he was seven years old.  And he is gonna wear eyeglasses for the rest of his life.  I know it’s not ideal but what can he do?

But is there a way to treat bad vision?  Some eye exercises can help strengthen the muscles of the eyes. I also heard about some type of eyeglasses that can help treat a certain vision problem.  A good eye specialist can help with eye care needs and give recommendations on ways to improve good vision.

Helpful Tips:

That is why we should take care of our eyes especially our children’s.  Kids are vulnerable to vision problems because of modern technology around us.  These tips are based on my personal experience and daily routine.

  • Do not overdo looking on the screen of our computers, laptops, phones, and tablets.  Look away from the computer after every 20 minutes.
  • Don’t watch television or read when you are lying down.
  • Wash your face 10 minutes after you wake up in the morning.
  • Relax your eyes (few minutes after working on the computer) before washing your face at bedtime.
  • Keep an ideal distance when watching television – not too close and not too far.
  • Eat yellow, orange, and green vegetables rich in Vitamin A.
  • Exercise your eyes outdoors by looking as far as you can.

Hope these help.  If you have more recommendations, please leave in the comments below.
