About this time last year I had our little princess’ ears pierced when she was five months old. My husband and I went to Sweet ‘N Sassy located Firewheel Shopping Complex in Garland. I read an article online that infant girls can have their ears pierced when their about five months old. Baby did not have an idea what was going to happen until the two girls (Sweet ‘N Sassy staff) pinched the earrings on her ears. She cried for about 30 seconds then she was fine.
I remember when I was a little girl, my mother pierced my ears (as far as I can remember) when I was like 3 or 4 years old. She’d let me lie down on my tummy pillow under my chin. Then she pierced my ears with sterilized needle with a thread knotted at the end. After the needle had gone through, she will leave about 1/4 to 1/2 of an inch thread knotted on both ends. It’s a way to keep the piercings open until their ready for the real earrings. The problem of that procedure is, there’s a possibility that piercings will not get even if you are a little wiggly. See, my ear piercings are uneven. My mother said that I turned my head a little when she was sticking the needle on one of my ear. So one hole is a bit higher than the other.
To me, wearing earrings is a symbol of femininity. I like earrings and I would love to see that my daughter likes them too.
If you want your baby girls’ ears pierced, have it done with a certified individual. Pediatricians don’t do it. I found Sweet ‘N Sassy does it.
Was searching for my GF’s blog and came across yours. Loved your thoughtful reasoning and description and pictures of having your dd’s ears pierced as an infant. She is adorable with those little earrings. I think
you were a super smart mommy for doing it now when mommy can care for them. She’ll thank you later!
Our ped also encouraged to do it when mommy could care for them. I think babies and little girls with pierced ears are adorable. I agree with you that it celebrates their femininity and femaleness. I kept seeing babies and little girls with earrings and how cute they were with little gold studs in their ears poking through their hair.
Our ped gave me some suggestions for moms having their infant dd’s ears pierced as well as for “Tips for moms having their dd’s ears
pierced/Care of Newly Pierced Ears.”
If you or any other moms thinking about it and want to do it now or would like them, write me an e-mail.
